Class Sizes in County Wicklow - the Fourth Highest in the Country.
April 2015

The revelation in the Irish Independent that class sizes in Primary schools throughout County Wicklow are the fourth highest in the entire country is a disgrace.

Parents and teachers will be greatly concerned at the news that 28.7% of children in County Wicklow are being taught in classes of 30 or more in this school year. This is a direct result of Government failure to prioritise the educational welfare of primary school children. In addition, the cynical reduction in Resource Teaching hours for children with special educational needs has placed more pressure on these children and their classmates in mainstream classes and highlights the disregard of the Government for the particular needs of children with diagnosed educational challenges.

It is time that parents and teachers united to challenge the Government to commit proper resources to the primary education sector to ensure that every child in the country gets a decent educational start in life.
